With Cregger choosing to build a new story rather than directly revisit a familiar game storyline, the film appears poised to offer longtime players something recognisable while still standing on its own as a movie. For the filmmaker, staying true to Resident Evil ultimately means capturing the feeling of the games, rather than simply reproducing their characters and plots. Resident Evil hits theatres on September 18 and stars Austin Ambrams in lead role, alongside Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Johnno Wilson and Paul Walter Hauser.
