Nagpur: A 32-year-old woman was arrested after her speeding Kia Seltos allegedly rammed into several people in Nagpur on Tuesday night, injuring seven people, including three children.
The incident took place near the Dinshaw factory in the Gorewada area. According to police, the woman first crashed into another SUV and hit its driver, Balu Kulmethe, who was getting out of the vehicle with his young daughter.
The SUV then went out of control and hit three children who were walking along the road. It later struck two more people, identified as Harish Rambhau Revatkar and Ashish Nakhate.
All seven injured people were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Following the crash, a large crowd gathered at the spot and surrounded the police station, demanding strict action against the woman driver.
Police officials said they managed to pacify the crowd and bring the situation under control. The woman was later arrested.
Police suspect that the woman may have been driving under the influence of alcohol. However, this will be confirmed only after her medical examination reports are received.
“The woman is in our custody, and we have conducted her medical examination. We are waiting for the reports. Further action will be taken based on the reports,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Annapurna Singh said.
Police are also examining CCTV footage from the accident site and nearby areas as part of the investigation.
