This September, the School Library Association launched Reading Reboot, a three-year programme funded with £500,000 from the Charlotte Aitken Trust. Its first phase involves 35 secondary schools across London, the West Midlands and North East England, with 3,500 books arriving in school libraries before librarian-led social book clubs begin in October. Eventually, the programme aims to reach 100 schools and thousands of young people. Its most revealing feature may be what children are not being asked to do.
