A book about married life would ordinarily be expected to offer guidance on compromise, responsibility and companionship. ‘Grihasth Mein Kaise Rahen?’, written by Swami Ramsukhdas and published by Gita Press, does something far more troubling in parts of its advice to women. Its passages on domestic violence and sexual assault sit uneasily beside the protections available to women under contemporary Indian law. The Hindi book, published by Gita Press, remains commercially available.
