After a winning hat-trick on Amazon Prime Video, the makers of the popular show gave it a cinematic spin and brought it to the audience in a film format on September 4. It is running successfully in theatres despite competition from new releases. Sheeba Chadha, who plays Ali Fazal and Vikrant Massey/Jitendra Kumar’s mother in Mirzapur, reacted to the film’s performance at the box office. In an exclusive interview with Times Now Digital for her upcoming show, Bakaiti season 2, she said the entire team is ecstatic.

Sheeba told us, “All of us are ecstatic because we have been associated with it for a decade. There is another level of energy in the group. We are like a strong unit. Everyone is so grateful for being a part of that universe, and now that the film is so successful, it is delightful. We are very happy.”

When asked whether the audience is accepting content-driven cinema irrespective of the cinematic appeal, Chadha shared, “Mirzapur, I don’t know whether it is mainstream in that sense, but it comes from a history of an extremely loved series. This film is coming with a strong push. It didn’t come out of the blue and pop up. The story has been loved a lot over these years, and that’s how we managed to make these many seasons. It is a very special film in terms of where it comes from.”

About Mirzapur: The Movie

The story of Mirzapur: The Movie is set in 2018, when Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) instructs Guddu (Ali Fazal) and Bablu (Jitendra Kumar) to kill the son of an ally after he switches sides and cheats him. Kaleen’s trust in the Pandit brothers bothers his son Munna (Divyenndu). The entry of Babban (Ravi Kishan) brings the three men together, and their banter and clashes form an important part of the story.
