Mitchell Marsh-led Australia will be taking on Sikandar Raza’s Zimbabwe in the first ODI of the three-match series in Harare. This is Aussies’ first tour of Zimbabwe in eight years. The reigning World champions are anticipated to use the tour as a prelude to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Namibia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa will co-host the 2027 edition of the mega tournament. Australia may use their tour to Zimbabwe to prepare and get familiar with the playing conditions in the region ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
George Bailey has stated that Australia would benefit greatly from the series because they will not have many ODIs in the upcoming year. Every game will present a new chance to assign duties, evaluate various combinations, and identify people who can consistently cover for the team.
In order to manage their workload, Australia has decided to exclude front-line quicks Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc from the Zimbabwe series. They will then embark on a tour of South Africa. With captain Mitchell Marsh and hard-hitting opener Travis Head back after missing Australia’s early white-ball assignments this year, their absence has not done anything to damage the team.
