The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Sunday released its manifesto for the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, with student accommodation, campus safety, participation in university decisions, academic reforms and career opportunities among its key priorities.
The manifesto is built around four pillars: ‘A-Awas, B-Bhagidari, V-Vishwas, P-Parinaam’. ABVP said its agenda focuses on issues affecting students’ academic lives, safety, accommodation and career prospects.
The ABVP panel comprises Yash Dabas for President, Ishu Maurya for Vice President, Riya Chhawdi for Secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh for Joint Secretary. The organisation has appealed to students to vote for its complete panel in the 7-3-3-3 sequence.
ABVP Focuses On Student Accommodation And Women’s Safety
Safe and affordable accommodation is a major component of the manifesto, particularly following the Satya Niketan incident. ABVP has proposed new hostels, better hostel facilities for women students, a dedicated student accommodation cell and helpline, and safety audits of paying guest accommodations and hostels.
The manifesto also calls for strict implementation of fire safety norms and better access to basic facilities, including cleanliness, drinking water and internet connectivity.
For women students, ABVP has proposed stronger security patrols, pink booths, more women security personnel, improved campus lighting and common rooms. Other proposals include sanitary napkin vending machines, gynaecologists at university health centres and self-defence training.
The manifesto also promises stronger grievance redressal mechanisms, effective Internal Complaints Committees and legal assistance. ABVP has proposed dedicated support for students with disabilities, transgender students and students from the Northeast, along with accessible mental health counselling and awareness programmes.
Academic Reforms, Jobs And Skill Development
On the academic front, ABVP has called for timely and transparent examination results, supplementary examinations and access to evaluated answer scripts. It has also sought greater transparency in internal assessment, student-friendly examination arrangements and timely issuance of degrees.
The organisation has also included several proposals aimed at improving students’ transition from university to employment. These include job fairs, partnerships with industries and research institutions, training and internship opportunities, AI and digital-skills programmes, and initiatives promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.
ABVP presidential candidate Yash Dabas said the four pillars of the manifesto represent issues that directly affect students’ lives and aspirations. He also said the organisation would continue to pursue the issue of safe accommodation following the Satya Niketan incident.
Vice Presidential candidate Ishu Maurya said students, as primary stakeholders of the university, should have a meaningful role in decisions affecting them. He said the panel would focus on stronger student representation, accessibility and equal opportunities.
Secretary candidate Riya Chhawdi said women’s safety was essential to creating a student-friendly university, while Joint Secretary candidate Lakshya Raj Singh said the organisation would seek a more transparent examination system and stronger employment, training and entrepreneurship opportunities.
ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma said the organisation was running an issue-based campaign across Delhi University and claimed that the response from students had given it confidence of a clean sweep in the DUSU elections.
