The Greater Noida Executive Magistrate who asked a student to submit a personal Rs. 5 lakh bond over his participation in the Cockroach Janta Party, has been suspended with immediate effect.
The Solicitor General of India said in Supreme Court, in response to a writ petition filed by the student in question Akshat Tripathi, challenging the Magistrate’s notice.
“A strong message must go to the officers,” a senior counsel said, urging the bench to take the petition on board. The notice mentioned that he was indulging in “anti-government misleading talks” among the students and asked him to furnish a bond, the counsel mentioned.
CJI Surya Kant pointed out that when the matter was mentioned before him yesterday, he had taken a strong view of it, and sought the response of the State.
SG Tushar Mehta then informed the Court that the officer has been suspended.
CJP Co-Convener Saurav Das, in a post on X, lauded the decision. Das wrote, “the youth awakening is here. We will together fix our rotten, broken, corrupt system!”
