Andhra Pradesh: Eight wagons of a 78-wagon fertiliser-laden goods train derailed near the outer limits of Kovvur Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, disrupting train services in the section for several hours.
The goods train was carrying fertilisers from Paradip to Baramati and was heading towards Vijayawada when the derailment occurred near the fourth line at the outer part of Kovvur station.
According to preliminary information, eight wagons jumped the tracks. Railway officials immediately launched restoration work following the incident.
The down line was restored and services resumed at around 9:28 am. However, train movement in the section was affected for several hours.
Two passenger trains scheduled to operate on September 11 were also cancelled following the derailment. Passenger help desks have been set up at various railway stations to assist commuters affected by the disruption.
Second Derailment On Same Track
The incident has raised concerns as it is reportedly the second train derailment on the same track. Railway officials are expected to ascertain the exact cause of the derailment and examine whether any technical or maintenance-related issues contributed to the incident.
