The WWE action will move to Mexico next week and the company will host Raw and Smackdown their. Roman Reigns will return to the in-ring action for the first time since SummerSlam 2026 and defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta. Penta won a tournament on Raw to earn the title opportunity. While there are bleak chances of WWE taking the title off Reigns, the company could surprise the fans by making Penta win the title in his home country. He is a one-time Intercontinental Champion.
Reigns won the title at Wrestlemania 42 by defeating CM Punk in the main event. He earned the title opportunity after winning the 2026 Royal Rumble. Reigns defended the title against Jacob Fatu at two back-to-back premium live events. Fatu had to join the Bloodline after losing to Reigns.
Reigns’ third title defence came against Seth Rollins in the main event of SummerSlam. They finished their rivalry at the biggest party of the Summer. Rollins has been on a break from WWE since then.
WWE SmackDown’s top title will also be on the line next week in Mexico. CM Punk will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Sami Zayn in the main event. Zayn won the title at Night of Champions and lost it nine days later to CM Punk.
Punk successfully defeated Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam and has also defeated Kevin Owens to retain the title. Last week, Punk woke up Johnny Gargano in the storyline and defeated him to retain the title. Unlike Reigns, Punk is defending his title regularly. He is set to continue his title reign for now.
Why will Raw and SmackDown have an early start?
Since WWE Raw and Smackdown will tke place outside of the US, the weekly shows will start earlier than the usual time. The Indian audience can enjoy the live aciton from 5:AM IST both both days. The shows will be streamed live on Netflix.
