The skills gap is stark: 4.1 percent of Indians aged 15 and above report having received formal training, while many others acquire skills informally without recognition or certification. Coupled with weak career counselling, the absence of recognition of prior learning, and limited wage premiums for skills, India’s youth often face uncertain transitions into work. These challenges are further amplified by technological disruptions and other forces, all of which demand continuous skilling, re-skilling, and upskilling. We are still struggling to get it right the first time.
