Eight people were killed in a major road accident on National Highway 66 at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam, Thrissur. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
The accident occurred when a Tamil Nadu-registered car (TN59DW8299) crashed into the rear of a parked goods lorry. Preliminary information suggests that the occupants of the car were students of P.S.M. Engineering College in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.
The accident took place around midnight at Panambikkunnu Centre. The lorry was parked at a diversion on the under-construction stretch of the national highway when the car rammed into its rear.
The impact completely mangled the car. The occupants had to be extricated by cutting open the vehicle. According to preliminary information, all eight occupants died at the spot.
Following the accident, Kaipamangalam police reached the scene and initiated further proceedings. Police are collecting more details regarding the accident.
