A nine-year-old girl was allegedly abducted by her maternal uncle and aunt from Assam‘s Mariani, with the kidnappers reportedly demanding a ransom of Rs 60 lakh. The child was rescued by police from Islamnagar in Dergaon, early Wednesday morning.
Police launched a swift operation after the girl’s family received the alleged ransom demand. The child was traced and rescued at around 2 am. She is reported to be safe.
Two alleged kidnappers, identified as Sagar Ghosh alias Tarzen, the girl’s maternal uncle, and Wasim Rahman alias Kanakai, were arrested from Dergaon. Sagar Ghosh was apprehended from Koilakhata, while Wasim Rahman was arrested from Islamnagar.
However, Sagar Ghosh’s wife, Manisha Ghosh, along with Rahul Ali and another suspect identified as Mon, remain absconding. Police have launched a search operation to trace the remaining accused.
During the operation, police seized a Baleno car bearing registration number AS05B 9917 and a red scooter bearing registration number AS05W 4263, which were allegedly used in the abduction.
According to police sources, Sagar Ghosh and Manisha Ghosh had been staying at Room No. 109 of Loknath Bhawan in Mariani for around three days. On Tuesday afternoon, the couple allegedly visited the house of a relative, where they reportedly took the girl away by deception.
When the child did not return home for several hours, her family became alarmed. At around 5 pm, the family allegedly received a ransom demand of Rs 60 lakh. The kidnappers reportedly warned them against informing the police and threatened to kill the child if the money was not paid by 8 pm.
The girl’s father subsequently approached journalists and informed them about the incident, following which Mariani Police launched an immediate investigation.
Acting on the available information, police traced the girl’s whereabouts and conducted an operation in Dergaon. The child was eventually rescued from Islamnagar at around 2 am.
Rahul Ali is reportedly a resident of Islamnagar in Dergaon, while Mon is from Phukan Nagar in Dergaon. Police are continuing their investigation and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
