The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a new building of Government Senior Secondary School, Nadaun, in Hamirpur district. The project will cost Rs 17.52 crore.

The building will have six classrooms, seven laboratories, two staff rooms, a principal’s office, an electrical room, an NSS room, a conference room, a library, a control room, a music room, a dance room, and an art room, along with other basic amenities, as per a PTI report.

Speaking on the occasion, Sukhu said the existing school building had become old, and the new campus is expected to be completed by December this year, where students will be provided with a modern, spacious campus and improved educational facilities.

The chief minister also said teacher recruitment in schools is being carried out strictly on merit. Additional teachers will be engaged by September 30 to strengthen the teaching system and address staff shortages.

Focus On Rural Education Infrastructure

Sukhu emphasised that strengthening educational infrastructure remains a priority for the state government, particularly to ensure that students in rural areas have access to quality education closer to their homes.

He also highlighted plans to develop a state-of-the-art sports complex in Nadaun, which will offer facilities for around 14 indoor sports.

According to the chief minister, the sports infrastructure is part of efforts to promote sports tourism, strengthen the local economy and create new opportunities for young people.

Ayurvedic Institution and Beas River Ghat Planned

Sukhu said the establishment work of an AIIMS-level Ayurvedic institution in Hamirpur is currently underway. Around 74 bighas of land have been identified for the proposed institution, while the bidding process has already begun.

He further announced plans to develop a new ghat along the Beas River near the Nadaun bridge at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore. The Nadaun bus stand will also be upgraded to provide improved facilities for commuters, he said.
