King Harald V Dies at 89: From Fleeing the Nazis as a Child to Norway’s Longest-Serving Monarch

Born on 21 February 1937 at the royal Skaugum estate outside Oslo, he was the son of Princess Märtha of Sweden and the future King Olav V of Norway. He had two elder siblings, Princess Ragnhild and Princess Astrid. On his maternal side, he was connected to King George VI and Queen Mary, who were named as his godparents.
