New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday (August 25) approved the transfer of technologies of all conventional missile systems developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to the Indian defence industry for production within the country. The development is seen as a major boost for the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative to counter rising treats from Pakistan and China..
Notably, the transfer of technology is a significant step towards expanding domestic industry participation in the defence sector by facilitating indigenous manufacturing in line with prescribed qualifications, certifications and regulatory norms.
“The provision will enable successful transition of missile system development to industrial production, reflecting the continued efforts of DRDO to leverage the capabilities of the Indian industry for the development and manufacture of advanced defence systems,” the Defence Ministry said.
The initiative aims to boost indigenous manufacturing, reinforce India’s defence industrial base and enable greater involvement of MSMEs and technology partners in the supply chain.
“The initiative aims to enhance operational capability, reduce import dependence and increase domestic value addition, while supporting the growth of India’s defence manufacturing sector,” the ministry stated.
Meanwhile, the DRDO will continue to remain working closely with Indian industry to facilitate the transfer and absorption of advanced defence technologies.

Last week Pakistan’s decision to impose an unusually large airspace and maritime exclusion zone triggered speculation that the country could be preparing for Fatah-3 Missile test as the restricted area reportedly stretches roughly 750 kilometres across parts of Punjab, Sindh and coastal Balochistan, including areas around the Sonmiani firing range, according to reports citing aviation notices.
The restrictions drew particular attention because of their geographic scale and the inclusion of areas associated with Pakistan’s military testing activity.
The speculation centred on Pakistan’s Fatah-3, a recently unveiled supersonic cruise missile that has attracted attention because of its reported speed and low-altitude flight characteristics.
