An American tourist has died after being struck by lightning while hiking on Sicily’s Mount Etna following a period of intense volcanic activity, Italian firefighters said Monday. The 29-year-old man from Kansas was struck on Sunday evening during a thunderstorm while in an exposed, barren area of the volcano. He was found at about 1,400 meters, or nearly 4,600 feet, in the Rocca Capra area.
