Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the newly appointed office-bearers and expressed confidence in the new team’s ability to strengthen the party and focus on public service.
“Congratulations to the newly appointed National Office Bearers of the BJP and those who have been given various responsibilities in the Party. This newly appointed team brings together organisational experience, energy and grassroots connect. I am confident they will give their best in strengthening our Party and focussing on public service. My best wishes to them.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X.
The new line-up includes a mix of experienced leaders and younger faces, with a strong focus on regional representation. The BJP has brought in many new faces, including Kavita Patidar, K Surendran, Sandeep Pathak and Manoj Tigga, in its team of 16 national secretaries from different states.
Former Union minister Smriti Irani has returned to a key organisational role as one of the BJP’s national general secretaries. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia is among the prominent names retained as a national vice president.
Six of the 13 national vice presidents are women, indicating a greater focus on women’s representation in the party’s top organisational positions. The new team also includes four women secretaries and a woman general secretary, while two members are from the Muslim community.
The party has retained BL Santhosh as National General Secretary (Organisation) and brought in former Union minister Smriti Irani and ex-Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb in its team of eight national general secretaries, according to the list released by the party. Santhosh will be supported by joint general secretaries Shiv Prakash, based in Mumbai, and Saudan Singh, based in Chandigarh.
Notably, Sandeep Pathak, who recently quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been appointed as the BJP’s national secretary. Sambit Patra has been given charge as coordinator for the Northeast region.
Why The BJP Reshuffle Matters For 2027
The organisational changes come as the BJP steps up preparations for several key state elections scheduled for 2027, including in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The new appointments are also being seen as part of the party’s longer-term preparations for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP has already started making organisational changes at the state level. In Punjab, for instance, the party recently appointed in-charges for all 36 organisational districts as it prepares for the 2027 Assembly elections.
