Williams Spoke About The Incident
In a 2018 interview with RingTV, Williams opened up about the emotional impact of the incident and the lasting weight it had placed on him. Williams said he had never held hostility toward Colón and that he never intended to cause the devastating outcome.
“I pray for Prichard every single day. I don’t wish nothing but peace and health for that man. It’s been hard on me, too. I didn’t want that to happen to him. I was just trying to win a fight. My life changed that night, and it will never be the same,” Williams said.
Williams entered the fight in Fairfax, Virginia, with an undefeated record and moved to 15-0 after the bout. However, the tragedy left him emotionally shaken, and he stepped away from boxing for two years while dealing with the aftermath.
He eventually returned to competition in 2017, despite protests from members of Colón’s family. Williams competed only a handful of times after his comeback before ending his professional boxing career in 2019.
Since retiring, Williams has largely stayed away from the public spotlight and maintained a private life away from boxing.

Colón died on August 13, 2026, at the age of 33, more than a decade after suffering the brain injury that ended his boxing career. His father, Richard Colón, confirmed his death and thanked supporters for their years of love and prayers.
Following the 2015 fight, Colón underwent emergency surgery and spent 221 days in a coma. After leaving the hospital in 2016, he required constant care and never recovered his ability to walk or speak normally. His family continued to support him through years of rehabilitation.
His family has not publicly disclosed a specific immediate medical cause of death. His death came after more than a decade of severe neurological complications following the 2015 injury.
