The NPS said the work was necessary to allow staff and contractors to clear the pool’s water-supply pipes, reportedly for the first time in more than a decade. Notices posted around the Reflecting Pool said the partial refill was part of ongoing maintenance and warned that the water could temporarily become discoloured as accumulated material inside the pipes is removed.
