in special instagram ama session, rahul gandhi names his 'favourite politician from bjp': who is he?

In a fresh outreach to Gen Z, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday took questions from students during an “Ask Me Anything” session on Instagram, where he named former Punjab Chief Minister and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh as his favourite politician.

Responding to a question from students asking him to name his favourite BJP politician, Rahul Gandhi said, “Captain Amarinder Singh”.

“Definitely, Captain Amrinder Singh. I get along with him. He is cool,” the Congress leader said, adding that Singh is an expert on military history. He further mentioned the former Punjab Chief Minister as uncle and ended the video message, saying, “Hello, Uncle Amarinder!”

The interaction was part of Rahul Gandhi’s Instagram AMA session, where he answers questions from young people on a range of subjects.

The response is noteworthy as Amarinder Singh, former Punjab Chief Minister and BJP leader, was once a Congress leader.

Who Is Captain Amarinder Singh?

Captain Amarinder Singh was a prominent Congress leader and had served as the Chief Minister of Punjab twice. He left the Indian National Congress in 2021 following differences with the party’s state leadership and subsequently formed his own political outfit, the Punjab Lok Congress.

On September 19, 2022, Amarinder Singh formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. On the same day, the Punjab Lok Congress was merged with the BJP.

The former Punjab Chief Minister has since remained associated with the BJP and has been involved in the party’s political activities in the state.
