TVK workers filed a police complaint, and an FIR was registered, following which Udhayanidhi was arrested from his residence on August 4, despite an anticipatory bail plea in the Madras High Court. The court directed police to release him on station bail the same day after questioning, ordering him to cooperate with the probe. Udhayanidhi called the case fabricated, calling the arrest ‘a comedy’.
