In JEE Advanced 2026, a total of 179,694 candidates appeared and 56,880 qualified. There were 18,826 undergraduate seats in 23 IITs in 2026. In the same year, close to 20 lakh candidates appeared for NEET-UG and 11.21 lakh qualified. There are 1,36,939 seats in the MBBS programme in 823 medical colleges. The same is true for civil services examinations. In 2025, 14,161 candidates were shortlisted for the Main examination against 1,087 notified vacancies. When many students compete for a limited number of places, the advantage of coaching is perceived to be important. It does not , however, show that coaching causes success or that every student needs it.
