Who Was Nims Purja? The Mountaineer Who Redefined What Was Humanly Possible

Long before Netflix documentaries, international awards and record books, Purja was simply a boy from Myagdi, a quiet district in western Nepal. His family wasn’t wealthy, but it was rich in discipline. His father had served as a Gurkha soldier, and so had his brothers. Growing up, service came before glory, and perseverance was simply part of everyday life. Following in their footsteps, Purja enlisted in the Brigade of Gurkhas at 18. It was the beginning of a military career that would eventually make history. After years of relentless training, he became the first Gurkha ever selected for the United Kingdom’s elite Special Boat Service (SBS), one of the world’s toughest special forces units. The experience forged the calm, fearless approach that later became his trademark on the mountains. What makes his story even more remarkable is how late it truly began.
