The U.S. military already has a foothold there. Pituffik Space Base, located on the island, plays a role in missile warning systems and space surveillance operations for the United States. Beyond its military value, Greenland also sits on substantial deposits of rare earth and other critical minerals, resources considered essential to both modern technology and defense manufacturing.
