Making his electoral debut, Kishor had secured nearly 60,000 votes, while Neeraj Kumar polled around 39,000 votes. The closely watched bypoll has emerged as a key political test for the BJP, which has held the Bankipur Assembly seat continuously since 1995. The constituency went to the polls after former MLA and BJP national president Nitin Nabin was elected to the Rajya Sabha earlier this year.
