Subhadeep Ghosh has replaced T Dilip as the fielding coach of Team India. The former Assam and Railways player is a veteran coach and has worked with different teams. At Team India, Ghosh will work directly under Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir is the present head coach of Team India. The BCCI decided against renewing Dilip’s contract. He first joined the coaching staff in 2021 and worked under Rahul Dravid. Dilip was the only coach from Dravid’s setup who retained his position when Gambhir replaced him.
Apart from Dilip, the BCCI also decided against renewing Ryan ten Doeschate’s contract. The BCCI has only confirmed Ghosh’s appointment so far. He will kick off his journey starting the Test series against Sri Lanka. Here, we know more about him –
Born in 1968, Subhadeep played for Railways and Assam in domestic cricket. He made his domestic cricket debut in the 1994-95 season. He played 17 first-class and as many List A matches in his decade-long domestic career. He scored 316 runs in first-class cricket and 307 runs in List A cricket. He never played a T20 game.
Ghosh played his last first-class game for Assam against Uttar Pradesh in 2004. He scored 11 runs in that game. In his last List A outing, against Jharkhand in 2005, Ghosh scored 22. Interestingly, MS Dhoni was also part of that fixture. Opening the innings, Dhoni scored 21 off 20 balls.
Ghosh took up coaching after retirement and he has worked with almost every team in Indian cricket. He has worked with India A, the Indian women’s cricket team, NCA teams and at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Ghosh recently worked with the India A cricket team during the Sri Lanka tour.
In 2021, he travelled to Australia with the women’s team as the fielding coach. There, he worked under Ramesh Powar. He has also worked with Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. In the IPL, he has worked with Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals.
