Why Portable Systems Matter
Iran has poured resources into missiles, drones and radar systems over the past two decades. But military experts say portable air defense systems like the ones in this deal serve a different, equally important purpose. Because they can be spread out quickly, operated by small teams and moved frequently, these systems are considerably harder to target than fixed air defense batteries, making them a valuable addition even for a country already invested heavily in other defense technology.
