Just three days after calling off its 36-day-long agitation, the CJP is once again threatening a fresh nationwide protest if the government fails to honour its commitment to withdraw FIRs against protesters and refrain from any punitive action.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who is currently undergoing treatment for typhoid, said, “If the harassment of students at the hands of the police continues, the Cockroach Janta Party will respond with a massive peaceful protest soon. The Govt must stop targeting and witch-hunting students.”

According to Das, government representatives told the outfit during talks on Tuesday that the matter had become “sub judice” following the Supreme Court’s interim order, and that the promised written assurance had still not been provided.

“They are now using that order and wanting to go back on the guarantees that they gave to the youth of this country. If the government does not honour its word and the agreements, we will be forced to again call for a big protest, not just in Delhi but nationwide,” Das said.

“This time, when the young of this country come out in support of fellow young people who are being targeted, they will not go back until full accountability is secured,” he said. “The youth will NOT accept this at any cost! We will stand with each and every protester who stood up for each other’s future!” he added.

CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Rana called it “a matter of shame” that the government had failed to act on its earlier assurances. “There was a clear assurance on July 25 that the FIRs would be withdrawn and that no fresh FIRs would be registered in future. If the word of a Union minister has no value, then we do not know whose word has value,” he said.

Rana demanded that the government honour the July 25 agreement and issue a written commitment on the withdrawal of all FIRs, along with an assurance that no new cases would be filed. “We demand that the government honour the July 25 agreement, give us a written agreement, withdraw all FIRs and ensure that no further FIRs are filed. If this does not happen, we will be compelled to launch an agitation again,” he said.

The ‘Direction Number 4’ Controversy

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said the Supreme Court’s ‘Direction No. 4’ — which permits existing FIRs and investigations against protesters to continue — could reignite the demonstrations. “The interim order passed by the Supreme Court of India in the batch of PILs related to the CJP protest must ring alarm bells across the country. In particular, Direction No. 4, which permits governments to proceed with existing FIRs and carry out investigations, raises extremely serious concerns,” Das posted on X.

Das also questioned why the government’s lawyers had not opposed the interim order in court. He argued that the Supreme Court had not directed the government to continue the FIRs, and that the executive still retained the power to withdraw cases or decide not to pursue them, urging the Centre not to cite the order as a reason for reneging on its commitments. The government is yet to respond to these claims.

36-Day Protest, Pradhan’s Resignation and Three Rounds of Talks

The CJP had called off its 36-day agitation at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, announcing that the government had accepted its key demands, hours after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post.

The CJP said it was withdrawing the protest “with immediate effect” after the government agreed to withdraw FIRs, gave an assurance against retaliatory action, and committed to considering broader examination reforms. The announcement was made by Saurav Das and Ashutosh Rana during a joint press conference alongside Union Minister JP Nadda and MoS PMO Jitendra Singh.
