Numbers tell the same story. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), 69 of the 226 sitting Rajya Sabha MPs, nearly one in three have declared criminal cases against themselves. Thirty-six have declared serious criminal cases. Among them are MPs facing cases related to attempt to murder, murder and crimes against women. These public figures are from BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, CPI(M), BRS, AAP and several other parties, all who have disclosed pending criminal cases in their election affidavits. ADR also has a list of ‘accused’ in Lok Sabha.
