Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde on Tuesday used Gen Z slang in the Lok Sabha to take a swipe at Rahul Gandhi over his absence from the CJP protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Referring to Gandhi’s alleged absence, Shinde said, “36 din tak yeh Jantar Mantar nahi gaye, toh inko MIA ho gaya,” with MIA (Missing in Action) being a term widely used by Gen Z online. The “roast,” packed with Gen Z lingo, has since grabbed social media attention.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Shinde said, “Vipaksh ke andolan ko summarise karna chahunga main Gen Z ki bhasha mein. 36 din tak yeh Jantar Mantar nahi gaye, toh inko MIA ho gaya. MIA kya hai? Missing in Action. Toh 36 din tak kuch nahi kiya, toh kuch toh karna chahiye. Jantar Mantar toh nahi ja sakte, toh hum jaate Pradhan Mantri ke awas ke saamne aur wahan jaa kar andolan karte hain. Toh kya ho gaya phir? Andolan kyun kiya?” (“Let me summarise the Opposition’s protest in the language of Gen Z. For 36 days, they didn’t go to Jantar Mantar, so they became ‘MIA.’ What does MIA mean? Missing in Action. They did nothing for 36 days, so they felt they had to do something. Since they couldn’t go to Jantar Mantar, they decided to go and stage a protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence. Then what happened? Why did they protest?”)
He further said, ”Unko FOMO ho gaya – Fear of Missing Out. Arre, bacche yahan andolan kar rahe hain, toh hum kya karein? Toh hum chale PM Awas par. Arre suno, FOMO hone ke baad inko hua delulu. Inko laga chhatra hamare saath PM Awas tak aa gaye, lekin chhatra toh koi aaya hee nahi.” (“They got FOMO, Fear of Missing Out. They thought, ‘The students are protesting, so what should we do? Let’s go to the Prime Minister’s residence.’ But listen, after FOMO came ‘delulu.’ They started believing the students would join them all the way to the PM’s residence, but not a single student turned up.”)

During his address, Shinde described the nationwide agitation over the alleged NEET examination irregularities as a turning point that could pave the way for meaningful reforms in India’s education system. He maintained that the Union government had responded decisively by introducing stricter legal provisions, taking administrative action, and accepting the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Speaking during the debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha, the Shiv Sena MP urged students not to become disheartened and reiterated that the government remained committed to safeguarding their interests.
