Another big reason is the death of tigers outside of the reserves. Data shows that a significant number of tigers escape the reserve and go into human areas and landscapes in the search of prey or to mark territory. These mortality records include deaths from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand and several other states as well. Many have reported from territorial forests, revenue lands and villages beyond reserve boundaries. These numbers show an increasing gap as on one-side we see that the tiger population has expanded, however, on the other side, in the past decade, the habitat has not been able to keep pace.
