When you think of Spain, your mind usually flits off to vibrant, sunny days, happy commotion, endless paella and long bouts of lounging by the sea. And Arenillas would fit a sizeable part of this perception, except that policymakers have off late been referring to the village sitting within the autonomous community of Castile and Leon, as ‘Espana vaciada’. This literally translates to ’emptied Spain’ and that breaks our hearts a little.
