Investigators Say the Case Remains Open
As of now, officials have not released a formal cause of death, and a separate autopsy conducted by the state is still pending. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi, in a statement issued July 8, said Wells was last seen near Horn Island and asked the public to come forward with any information that could help the investigation. The sheriff’s office said its investigators are working to piece together what happened using eyewitness accounts, physical evidence and other available information.
