The further a team goes, the more the performance-based payouts it gets. In addition to their guaranteed funding, teams eliminated in the group stage get about $9 million in performance money. Since this is the first 48-team competition, there is now a round of 32 that was absent from the previous 32-team model. Teams eliminated at that point will receive about $12 million.
