It all began with Will Byers. The story of Stranger Things in Hawkins, Indiana, officially started on November 6, 1983, when Noah Schnapp’s Will was taken into the Upside Down. It is up to his three best friends Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and devoted mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) to keep his memory alive during his disappearance. The pilot episode also introduces us to the rest of the characters in Hawkins whom we grow to love, including police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour).
