Dario Amodei’s Anthropic has announced Claude for Teachers, a new version of its AI chatbot designed specifically for teachers. The AI startup is offering verified K-12 educators in the US free access to Claude’s premium features, along with AI tools that can help create lesson plans, classroom activities and personalised learning materials.
As per the company, those who sign up by June 30, 2027, will get one year of free access. The programme is currently available only for individual educators.
“We’re introducing Claude for Teachers: free access to premium Claude capabilities for verified K-12 educators in the US, with a library of teaching skills and a direct connection to evidence-based curricula, mapped to academic standards in all 50 states,” the company said in post on X.
According to Anthropic, Claude for Teachers is designed to reduce teachers’ workload and give them more time to spend with students.
The company said many teachers deal with large classrooms, limited budgets and spend long hours preparing lessons. The AI tool is built to help teachers with these daily tasks.
How It Works
One of the biggest features of Claude for Teachers is its connection to ‘Learning Commons’, a platform that gives Claude access to academic standards across all 50 US states.
This allows the AI assistant to create lesson plans that match state education guidelines. It can also use trusted educational resources, including OpenSciEd and Illustrative Mathematics, while preparing teaching materials.
The AI assistant can also connect with several popular education platforms such as Canva Education, MagicSchool, Brisk Teaching, ASSISTments, Diffit, Eedi, Snorkl, TeachFX and Coteach.
With these integrations, teachers can create classroom activities, design learning materials, generate assessments and review student progress more easily.
Anthropic said Claude for Teachers can also personalise lessons for students with different learning levels. They can ask Claude to simplify or expand lesson content based on a student’s needs, helping create customised learning materials for the entire classroom.
The company has also added Claude Code and Cowork to the service. These features allow Claude to complete tasks automatically.
For example, teachers can upload attendance records, assessment scores and classroom notes, and Claude can analyse the data to suggest teaching plans. It can also automate routine work, such as reviewing daily assignments and preparing lesson updates for the next school day.
Anthropic also said a separate version for schools and school districts will be launched later. Until then, school districts can continue using Claude for Nonprofits.
