Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident has been reported from Bhubaneswar, where a Class XI student lost his life after falling from the 10th floor of a residential apartment in the Niladri Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur Police limits.
According to the police, the teenager allegedly hid himself after his friend’s mother unexpectedly returned home. During the attempt to avoid being seen, he is believed to have lost his balance and fallen to his death.
The deceased has been identified as Rafan Khurshid, a resident of the Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar. He was a Class XI student at a reputed private English-medium school and was reportedly a classmate of the girl living in the apartment.
According to police, the incident occurred on Monday when Rafan allegedly visited the girl’s apartment while she was alone at home.
Officials said the situation changed after the girl’s mother unexpectedly returned home early following a half-day at work.
In panic, Rafan reportedly hid inside the bathroom and locked the door. However, when the family members checked the bathroom, he was no longer there.
During the investigation, police found that the teenager had allegedly moved to the narrow duct area adjacent to the bathroom in an attempt to remain hidden.
His school bag was later recovered hanging from pipes near the ninth floor, indicating that he had climbed onto the duct area.
Police suspect that while trying to hide, Rafan lost his balance and fell from the building.
Residents and security personnel rushed to the spot after hearing a loud noise and immediately shifted the critically injured student to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead.
Speaking to the media, Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena said that the preliminary investigation indicates the teenager was allegedly hiding inside his classmate’s apartment when the incident occurred.
According to the DCP, the girl lived with her family in a flat on the 10th floor of the residential apartment. On Monday, she was reportedly alone at home when the deceased student came to visit her.
Police said the situation changed when the girl’s mother unexpectedly returned home after finishing her half-day duty.
Panicked by her sudden arrival, the teenager allegedly hid inside the bathroom and locked the door from the inside. However, when the family members later opened the bathroom door, he was no longer there.
During the investigation, police discovered that the student had allegedly climbed into the narrow duct area adjacent to the bathroom in an apparent attempt to avoid being seen.
Investigators also recovered the student’s school bag hanging from pipes near the ninth floor of the building.
According to the DCP, investigators suspect that while hiding near the duct area, the teenager **lost his balance**, fell from the building, and suffered fatal injuries.
Police have stated that the investigation is still underway, and further details will emerge after the completion of the inquiry.
