Delhi Traffic Police on Friday said that efforts to regulate traffic, improve enforcement, and remove bottlenecks have shown positive results, while Delhi government sources indicated that the draft EV Policy 2.0 proposes a cap on the number of e-rickshaws in the city.

Delhi Traffic Police has claimed that a series of enforcement and traffic management measures has begun showing positive results, with analytical data sourced from navigation services indicating a reduction in congestion on several stretches between October and December.

Addressing a press conference, Special CP Traffic Manish Aggarwal said the department used archival data from navigation platforms to analyse average commuting time across the city.

According to the analysis, traffic conditions improved on multiple corridors during the October-December period.

Aggarwal said the primary objective of the traffic police is better regulation of traffic, adding that sustained enforcement has also had a positive impact on commuter behaviour.

He said 62 congestion points were discussed in a meeting chaired by the Lieutenant Governor, following which coordinated action was taken with civic agencies. While improvements were seen at many locations, results on four stretches were not satisfactory, and suggestions have been made for structural changes to the roads.

The Special CP said the traffic police has completed a study of 25 road stretches, of which eight have already been made signal-free. Another 25 stretches have now been identified for similar interventions.
