The victims were identified as Sgt. Scott Ries, 43-year-old Christine McWilliam, and her 13-year-old daughter, McKinley McWilliams. Ries, a 10-year veteran of the Rittman Police Department, was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He had previously served as a deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and as an officer with the Sugar Grove Police Department in Fairfield County.
