mumbai schools closed tomorrow july 7 colleges to remain shut amid imd orange alert

Amid persistent rainfall, which has prompted an orange alert across the Maximum City, all schools and colleges in Mumbai have been ordered to remain closed tomorrow. According to the BMC’s order, all government, private, and civic-run educational institutions shall remain closed on July 7, 2026, as the IMD predicts heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

In a release issued on Monday night, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said a holiday for educational institutions has been declared as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students in view of the IMD’s forecast.

The BMC has further appealed to the candidates to avoid venturing out unless it is urgent and to adhere to the advisories issued by the administration sincerely.

Incessant rainfall and strong winds have enveloped the financial capital, with the weather department issuing strict advisories. “Intense rainfall could inundate low-lying and urban areas, trigger flash floods and riverine flooding in some catchments, and cause water to flow over roads and bridges. The department also cautioned that weak trees could be uprooted, old and poorly maintained structures could collapse, and landslides, mudslides, and rockfalls could occur in vulnerable areas,” according to PTI reports.

Rough sea conditions and squally weather were likely along the Konkan coast. Road, rail, air and ferry services could face disruptions, while essential civic services such as water and electricity supply could also be affected, the IMD added.
