Canada defender Richie Laryea was involved in a heated exchange with Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi during the vital Round of 16 clash at the Houston Stadium. Canada’s historic run at the FIFA World Cup came to an end after a 0-3 loss to Morocco. The scoreline suggests that Morocco was the better of the two teams, but Canada left no stone unturned to put up a valiant fight.
The first half was evenly fought, with Canada making a bright start. They had at least two opportunities to take the lead, but failed to capitalise. During the final moment of the fiery opening half, Laryea and Hakimi battled for possession, and the latter gave a slight shove to Laryea, triggering a confrontation. Before things could escalate, the referee stepped in to separate the two.

I wanted to defend myself, my country, and my teammates, and show them it was not going to be an easy game.
