When you think of oysters, the typical setting and imagery that comes to mind is of a fine dining space – cool, calm and quiet. Your oysters arrive shucked and prepped, sitting pretty in their shells on a bed of ice. A squeeze of lemon – and maybe some heat if you like more flavour in the briny delicacy – and it’s good to be slurped right up. Conversely, even if you haven’t gone oyster-dining in the finest of spaces, at the very least you’d expect yourself to be within a beach’s eye-shot, sat on a sunny and windy rooftop, savouring these sea catches fresh from the water. In no case does one think of a hot, sweltering and screaming stadium, thronging with football fans cheering on their teams. The idea of snacking on absolutely anything besides popcorn, nachos and other adjacent match day spreads feels – unnatural? But that’s on us for thinking there was absolutely anything predictable about the world’s football troops, especially during FIFA season – the unhinged, round-the-clock meme fest on the internet should be proof enough.
