According to Dr. Anand Mohan, Consultant – Surgical Oncology, CK Birla Hospitals, Jaipur, advances in medical imaging and more frequent health check-ups are helping detect cancers long before symptoms appear, offering patients a much better chance of successful treatment. “It is a fact that nowadays a lot of patients are subject to such diagnostic procedures as CT scans, MRI, PET-CT, ultrasound examinations, or endoscopies, done for such reasons as abdominal pain, kidney stones, backache, or a general check-up. Most of the time, such investigations reveal a cancer in its early stage, whereas the patient normally would have developed symptoms by the time of diagnosis,” he said.
