Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to travel to Iran in the coming days to offer condolences, according to the country’s foreign ministry. China will be represented by He Wei, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, while India is sending Deputy Foreign Minister Shri Pabitra and Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain.
Iran says the funeral is expected to draw representatives from around 100 countries, including heads of government, parliamentary speakers, foreign ministers, special envoys and other political delegations.
The ceremony is also being viewed as an opportunity for Tehran to highlight its diplomatic ties and project stability. However, apart from Sharif and Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, few world leaders are expected to attend, with most countries opting to send senior officials instead.
Two senior Taliban officials, including Afghanistan’s deputy prime minister and acting foreign minister, are also expected to be present.
