A late-night road rage incident in Nagpur’s Mankapur area has led to the arrest of 14 people after a group of bikers allegedly assaulted an off-duty traffic policeman, vandalised his car and threatened to kill him following a minor traffic dispute.
The incident, which took place on June 28, was captured on CCTV and has sparked concerns over reckless riding and rising street violence in the city.

The victim, Kunal Madhusudan Singh (35), is attached to the MIDC Traffic Branch, a report by TOI states.
According to police, Singh was driving home in his car around 10.30 pm when he encountered a group of seven to eight motorcyclists riding in a zigzag manner near the Martin Nagar bridge approach road on Mankapur Road. Several of the bikes allegedly had multiple pillion riders, creating a hazard for other motorists.

Police said Singh honked to alert the riders, who initially moved aside.
However, the group allegedly sped ahead towards Mankapur Chowk. Just before a traffic signal, one of the motorcycles reportedly hit the rear of Singh’s car, leading to a confrontation.
Investigators said the bikers then blocked the constable’s vehicle, abused him, issued death threats and began attacking his car with stones.

The rear windshield was smashed and the bonnet damaged. When Singh stepped out of the vehicle, he was allegedly dragged out and assaulted. Police said he suffered injuries to his neck and back after being punched, kicked and struck with a stone.
The attack ended only after local residents intervened, forcing the group to flee.
Crucially, bystanders noted the registration number of one of the motorcycles, providing investigators with a key lead.
Using CCTV footage, vehicle registration records and witness inputs, Mankapur Police identified and arrested 14 accused.
Senior Inspector Haresh Kalsekar said three of those arrested have previous criminal records. Some reports also indicate that a few of the accused may be minors.
