A Shillong court had granted Sonam bail in April after finding that arrest documents repeatedly cited an incorrect provision of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, referring to Section 403(1) instead of Section 103(1), which deals with murder. The trial court held that the procedural lapses had prejudiced her defence, a finding later upheld by the High Court.
