Following the shooting, police cordoned off the area around the church as detectives began their investigation. Several roads in the area were closed as officers responded to the scene, including Benning Road Northeast between H Street/Maryland Avenue and 21st Street, and 18th Street Northeast between Gales Street and Benning Road.
