zimbabwe pickleball takes a big leap with back-to-back national tournaments

Zimbabwe’s pickleball calendar is set for a busy August after the Zimbabwe Pickleball Association (ZPA) confirmed that two major tournaments will be held in Harare and Bulawayo, bringing together players from across the country as the sport continues its rapid growth.

The twin events will feature singles and doubles competitions across multiple categories, providing opportunities for experienced players, rising talent and grassroots clubs to compete while promoting community participation and family involvement.

Speaking about the announcement, Zimbabwe Pickleball Association president Mthandazo Ngwenya said the tournaments represent another important step in the sport’s development.

“These tournaments are more than just competitions. They are a celebration of how far pickleball has grown in Zimbabwe,” Ngwenya was quoted as saying by Herald Online Zimbabwe.

“We want to create opportunities for our players to compete regularly while strengthening community participation and inspiring more people, especially the youth, to take up the sport.”

Ngwenya believes staging marquee events in both Harare and Bulawayo reflects the association’s long-term vision for nationwide growth.

“Harare and Bulawayo have vibrant pickleball communities, and hosting major events in both cities demonstrates our commitment to developing the game nationally.”

“We look forward to welcoming players from all corners of the country for what promises to be exciting, highly competitive tournaments.”

The Harare event will open the August schedule before attention shifts to Bulawayo, where another strong field is expected to compete. Both cities have witnessed steady growth in participation, with local clubs continuing to expand and introduce more players to the sport.

Ngwenya added that further details would be released soon.

“We will announce the official dates, venues and registration details for both tournaments in the coming weeks.”

The tournaments are expected to provide another boost to Zimbabwe’s growing pickleball ecosystem as the association continues its efforts to increase participation, strengthen domestic competition and create more opportunities for players across the country.
