BS-III and BS-IV trucks contribute 62 per cent of the total PM2.5 emitted by trucks entering Delhi, according to a report. Out of the total 52.18 kg of PM2.5 emitted by all trucks coming to Delhi every day, BS-IV trucks account for 14.47 kg, BS-III trucks 17.9 kg, and BS-VI trucks 19.81 kg, it said. This figures were part of an analysis report ‘Towards Cleaner Freight in Delhi: Assessing Interstate Truck Emissions and Mitigation Strategies’, which was released on Monday. Note that nearly 16,900 heavy-duty trucks enter Delhi every day, out of which about 62 per cent comply with BS-VI norms, followed by 28 per cent BS-IV and 10 per cent BS-III or older, added the analysis.
The study was carried out by the Air Pollution Action Group (A-PAG), the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). It also revealed that the heavy-duty trucks entering Delhi every day account for 23 per cent of total daily transport emissions, and their share increases significantly to 61 per cent during early morning and nighttime hours.
